September 19th, 2016: It’s Monday, What Are You Reading?

It’s Monday, What Are You Reading? is a weekly meme currently hosted by The Book Date. It’s a place to meet up and share what you have been, are and about to be reading over the week, and add to that ever-growing TBR stack.

I’m feeling another slump coming. I’ve been reading so much lately, and with two readathons back to back it is starting to creep in. Part of my slump is definitely not having visited a bookstore or a library in a few weeks. We don’t have a public library in my hometown, so I made a trip to the local Borders (Yep, we still have those here. Probably the last two that ever were) but sadly, their stock consisted on MMPs of airport novels, business and self-help books, and reading books for kids. So yeah, need to find a job in a town with a library and a half-decent bookstore.

I’m not really stressing about being in a reading slump, because well, I’ve learnt by now that riding it out or switching formats and things are the easier ways to get out of a slump. So, on this week’s roster:

One is a book of poetry, and the other is on audio. I haven’t gotten around to watching the TV series yet, but Hoopla had this book on there when I was browsing so I grabbed it. Meanwhile I’m also shifting to a little bit of academic reading and research and catching up on podcasts so that I can stay in the loop. My TBR, galleys, spreadsheets, etc. need some sprucing up, so if this is a slump, then I have plenty to do in the meantime.

What books have  been grabbing you guys lately?

  1. I need more poetry in my life. I’ve seen some beautiful quotes by Rupi Kaur on Instagram. I can sympathise with reading slumps. I go days without reading anything depending on life but I just roll with the cycle too.

    1. I seem to have short but frequent reading slumps. I’m also super quick to jump the gun and call 2 days of no reading a slump so…yeah, I need to work on not stressing out too much too soon.

  2. Eww reading slumps! But you’re right, don’t force yourself and I think you got through it fine? Any cool academic titles I need to put on my list? I’ve gotten better about reading slumps thanks to the awful amount of tv watch 😀

  3. Slumps stink, and so does not being near a library. Does your Chicago library card still function?

Also, yes, what Naz said. If you can’t find good reading material (or don’t want to), definitely don’t feel bad about doing other things! 🙂

  4. Doing some academic reading is always an excellent thing when I’m feeling a bit slumpy, so I affirm your discernment there. I have all these new podcast recs too now, because of having set up that whole audiobook/podcasts recs thing for Kim — I collated all the recommendations to send to her and now she has them and I TOO HAVE THEM MWAHAHAHAHA.

  5. I’m sorry you’re in a slump…that’s the worst! And I’ve been hearing Milk and Honey has been selling like gangbusters. Poetry is not my thing, but I’m kind of curious what all the fuss is about.
